VILLE PLATTE-It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Wade Hampton Reed, Jr., 92, announces his passing at his residence on Monday, July 20, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Burial will follow in Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery with Father Tom Voorhies as celebrant.
Hampton served during WWII in the Philippines as a United States Coast Guard Veteran and was instrumental in the construction and fabrication of the Higgins Boats in New Orleans for WWII. Mr. Reed was also the proud owner and operator of Hampton Reed's Garage from 1958 until 1986, a retired fire chief with 25 years of service with the Ville Platte Fire Department and a member of the Knights of Columbus with Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Hampton will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 23 years, Jean Pitre Reed of Ville Platte, sons, David Reed and fiancé Cynthia LeBlanc of Broussard, Dennis Reed of Ville Platte, Dale Reed and wife Carla of Bunkie, Richard Reed and wife Cindy of Youngsville, Stephen Reed of Ville Platte, step son, Jody Ortego of Ville Platte, daughters, Karen Doumit and husband Carl of Columbus, MS., step daughters, Ann Greene and husband Bobby of Lafayette and Kay Fontenot and husband Dess of Ville Platte. Also left behind to cherish Hampton's memory are his 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Mr. Reed will now reunite in Heaven with his first wife, Lou Ellen "Sis" Reed, parents, Wade Reed, Sr. and Elta Guillory Reed, brothers, James Reed and Clinton Reed, sisters, Margaret Fontenot and Alice Marcantel and great grandson, Seth Pellegrin. They will be awaiting his arrival with open arms and joyous hearts.
At the request of the Reed family, a visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 11 AM until 9 PM and again on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 8 AM until time of services. A rosary will be prayed in Mr. Reed's honor on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 6 PM.
Arrangements are entrusted to Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte, La.
