VILLE PLATTE – Funeral services will be held at an 11:00 Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Plate for Mercedes Soileau Foret, 86, who passed away on Wednesday, June 23 in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Father Andrew Killeen will be celebrant of the Mass and will conduct funeral services.
Entombment will take place in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Mercedes Soileau Foret was born in Ville Platte, Louisiana on August 9, 1934 to Octave and Dinah Smith Soileau. She worked for the Evangeline Parish School Board as a secretary for many years until her retirement. When not working, she enjoyed playing cards especially Pokeno, going to the casino, and spending time with family and friends.
Mercedes is survived by her two nieces, Emma Joy Scales of Bridge City, Texas and Wanda Buckley and husband, Mike of Houston, Texas; nephew, Michael Fontenot and wife, Ellen of Baton Rouge; sister in law, Joycelyn Lee; numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Octave and Dinah Smith Soileau; her husband, Huey Foret; brother, Iray L. Soileau; three sisters, Claudia F. Grimes, Ola F. Trapp and Mary Lou Fontenot; niece, Elizabeth Dardeau; and great niece, Sarah Jones.
At the request of the family, a visitation will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 26, 2021. A rosary will be recited in her honor at 10:30 AM on Saturday.
