Marie Fontenot

VILLE PLATTE-Graveside services will be held for Marie Emalize Fontenot at 12:00 Pm on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Chataignier. Deacon Chuck Ortego will conduct services.

Marie Emalize Fontenot, 95, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ville Platte.  Marie was born on April 25, 1927, in Ville Platte to the late Jefferson Davis and Marie Soileau Fontenot.  Marie was a country girl raised on the farm.  She and her husband, Edley “Doc” Fontenot raised eight children while working their corn, cotton, and sweet potato farm.  She enjoyed the simple things in life and could be found swinging on her porch.  Marie was a great cook and took pleasure in cooking for her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Carroll Fontenot of Point Blue; daughters, Barbara Fontenot of Point Blue, Grace Soileau of Point Blue, Dru Fontenot of Bayou Chicot, Nell Ardoin (Harr) of Ville Platte, Jo Ann Welleber of Marksville, and Cynthia Bordelon of Point Blue; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Jefferson Davis and Marie Soileau Fontenot; husband, Edley “Doc” Fontenot; and son, Joseph Norman Fontenot.

Visitation will be held from on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte. A rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM.
