VILLE PLATTE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ville Platte for Margery “Maude” A. Soileau on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Entombment will take place at Evangeline Memorial Mausoleum.
Margery “Maude” A. Soileau, 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Margery was born on February 20, 1926, in Tate Cove, Louisiana to Homer and Heloise Deshotel Ardoin. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated in 1944. She married Leo Soileau in 1948 and they made their home in Ville Platte. She worked for many years as a sales clerk in local stores and later worked for Dr. Ed Morrison in his optometrist office.
Margery loved baking, cooking, crocheting, sewing, gardening, ceramics, and craft-making. She made the best birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends. She was a long-time member of the Ville Platte Homemaker’s Club, Lion’s Club, Vietnam Veterans of America, Come Lord Jesus Group, Sacred Heart Choir, the Community Action Agency, and the Advisory Council for Village de Memoire.
Margery was nominated for Ville Platte Woman of the Year in 1987 and 1990 and won Woman of the Year in 1998. She was nominated by the Ville Platte Homemakers Club for Great American Family of the Year and won in 1992.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Soileau Ramirez and husband, Bill, of Ville Platte; grandchildren: Matthew Ramirez of Ville Platte, Michael Ramirez (Lindsey) of Sunset, Courtney Ramirez of Ville Platte, Richard Ramirez of St. Louis, Missouri, and Ray Ramirez (Tasha) of Prunedale, California; great-grandchildren: Leo Ramirez, Evelyn Ramirez, Noah Ramirez, Paige Ramirez, and Reyden Ramirez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Soileau; parents, Homer and Heloise Deshotel Ardoin; sister, Annabelle Ardoin Fontenot; brothers, Clarence, Sylvan, and Huey Ardoin.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Friday, March 3. Visitation will resume at 8:00 AM, Saturday, March 4.
