Ivy Fontenot Ortego

VILLE PLATTE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ivy Fontenot Ortego at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Father Andrew Killeen will be the celebrant of the mass followed by Internment at Old Ville Platte Cemetery.

Ivy Fontenot Ortego, 99, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home of Ville Platte. Ivy was born on August 3, 1923, in Washington, LA to the late Adilus Fontenot and Leontine Vidrine Fontenot. Ivy and her late husband, Frank James Ortego were the owners and operators of Ortego’s Food Lane. She was a phenomenal cook who very much enjoyed cooking for her family. Ivy enjoyed sewing in her spare time and leaves a legacy through the many quilts she made for others.

She is survived by her daughters, JoAnne Guillory, Gloria Saintes, and Jennifer Penn (George); grandchildren, Sammy Guillory (Debbie), Danny Guillory, Jim Cy Guillory, Vincent Ducote (Elaine), Marie Ducote-Comeaux (Mike), Eric Ducote (Christine), Monette Dion (Derrick), Kelli Ortego, Nicholas Ortego (Holly), Bucky Penn (Renee), Candace Dessert (Dennis) and Shane Attaway (Gabie); two daughters-in-law, Glenda Ortego and Connie Ortego, twenty-three great grandchildren; and eighteen great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Adilus Fontenot Leontine Vidrine Fontenot; husband, Frank James Ortego; sons, James Curtis Ortego and Paul Benny Ortego; and grandson, Chad Ortego.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte. A Rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM by Deacon Ben Soileau.

Serving as Pallbearers are Shane Attaway, Jace Ortego, Caleb King, Taylor Ducote, Adam Guillory, Cy Guillory. Readers are Marie Ducote-Comeaux and Monette Dion. Altar boy will be Brayden Ortego.
