Corine Roberie October 18, 1928 May 29, 2008 Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 10am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery. Fr. Josh Guillory will officiate the services. Ms. Roberie died on May 29, 2008 at her home. A Labor of Love is an apt description of her active participation, constructive contribution and personal growth in the world of gardening and garden-clubbing. It, along with membership in other clubs having common goals and objectives, and her long time association with the Louisiana Cotton Festival Commission has been a powerful springboard for sharing herself in community service and effective citizenship. Her vigorous spirit of volunteerism made her vividly aware that because of her interactions with the needs and wants of her peers, she experienced a metamorphosis, a fulfillment which she treasured. A quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that she believed in was The reward of a thing well done is to have done it. She firmly believed in grassroots development, continuing education, self-help, teamwork,
ersification and friendship. Above all else, Roberie cherished her family. She led her life as an example for her children and grandchildren to live by. Roberie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute SLI, majoring in Social Studies and French. She later earned a Master of Education degree in Supervision and Administration from Louisiana State University. Following retirement as an educator, she was licensed by the Louisiana Horticulture Commission as a landscape contractor and horticulturist. Roberie was a member of the Magnolia Garden Club, President of the Friends of Arboretum, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Southwest Council of Flower Show Judges, Louisiana Garden Club Federation Landscape Design Critics Council, Louisiana Project Wildflower, Louisiana Horticulture Commission, Louisiana Society for Horticulture Research, Friends of the Library and Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. Roberie was the founder and project chairman of the Native Plant Heritage Garden in Ville Platte, worked to develop an Outdoor Conservation Classroom in the Louisiana State Arboretum, served on State Cleanest City judging team and was actively involved in promoting Cleanest City Contest in Ville Platte. Survivors include her son, Richard H. Manuel of Ville Platte; a daughter, Martha Lejeune and husband, Scott of Lafayette; a sister, Mrs. James E. Betty Soileau of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Melissa Manuel, Garrett Manuel, Natalie Lejeune, and Emily Lejeune and one step grandchild, Nathan Lejeune. She is preceded in death by a son, Robert Paul Manuel and a brother, Ellis Roberie. Visitation will be held Friday, May 30, 2008 from 11am until 9pm and on Saturday from 8am until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 6pm Friday. Giftbearers will be Melissa Manuel, Natalie LeJeune and Emily LeJeune. Lectors will be Kateri Manuel and Michaela Blanchard. Pallbearers will be Richard Manuel, Scott LeJeune, Nathan LeJeune, Garrett Manuel, Jess Soileau and John Roberie.
