VILLE PLATTE It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Ray Israel, 60, announces his passing on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at his residence his devoted family was at his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Rite of Committal will follow in the Platin Cemetery with Fr. Joshua Guillory acting as Celebrant.
An adoring husband, father, grandfather and brother, Charles leaves behind his wife of forty years, Sherry Israel, of Mamou. He is also survived by one son, Brock Israel and his wife, Rachel, of Mamou, and three daughters, Melissa Richard and her husband, Jason of Eunice, Michelle Welch and her husband, Erick of Oberlin and Liz Jack and her husband, Waylon also of Mamou. Charles also leaves behind his four siblings: Kerry J. Israel and his wife, Anna of Denham Springs, Lawrence Catfish Israel and his wife, Kim of Tioga, J. Toby Israel and his wife Marla of Ville Platte and Sheila Vidrine and husband, Paul also of Ville Platte. His memory will most certainly be cherished by his eleven grandchildren and his four great grandchildren they were truly the light of his life.
Charles served his country with great honor and pride in two different branches of the military, the U. S. Army and the U. S. Marine Corps he retired from the U. S. Army in 1979. He also served the people of Mamou with their Police Department he proudly served his community as Assistant Chief of Police and a great many other capacities, including D.A.R.E. officer, he was a man to which service was second nature. He enjoyed many pastimes, including, fishing, playing bingo, coaching baseball and many considered him the New Orleans Saints number one fan.
He now joins in Heaven his beloved parents: Attaway and Pauline Israel and one sister, Doris J. Israel. They await his arrival with open arms and joyous hearts.
At the request of the family visitation will take place at Ardoins Funeral Home in Ville Platte beginning at 9:00 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2012 and continuing until 10:00 PM that evening. Visitation will resume Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 8:00 AM and continue until time of services. A Rosary will be recited in his memory Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM.
