VILLE PLATTE It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Cecil Robert LeBas, 82, announces his passing on Saturday, May19, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte. He was surrounded by his loving family when he left this world to join his Savior. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 12:00 PM. Rite of Committal will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest near his beloved parents and inlaws. Father Garrett McIntrye will be officiating the services.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, Cecil leaves behind his beloved wife of fifty two years, Janet Guillaumin LeBas and his five children: Henry H. LeBas of Lafayette, Claude R. LeBas and his wife, Rebecca of Broussard, Pauline LeBasLeCoq and her husband, Bill of Ville Platte, Jules J. LeBas and his wife, Pattie of Pollock and Louisa LeBasBowen and her husband, Klark of Ville Platte. His memory will most certainly be cherished by his ten grandchildren: Dr. Jacob LeBas and his wife, Samantha, Emily Ortego and her husband, Cody, Jacques LeBas, Sophie LeCoq, Cole LeCoq, Erin Guillory, Logan LaFleur, Lindsey LeBas, Blaise LeBas and Ian Vizinat. Also left behind are his two greatgrandchildren: Cain Davis and Rhemy LeBas they were truly the light of his life. Cecil is also survived by his siblings: Jackie LeBas, Carlyle LeBas, Adelaide Dupre, Andre LeBas, Bernard LeBas and Peter LeBas and he will be sorely missed by their children: his Godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cecil graduated from Sacred Heart High School and remained a faithful and devoted member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church up until the time of his death. He continued his education at the University of Houston where he earned a degree in Pharmacy, continuing in his fathers foot steps, after which time he returned to Ville Platte to work in the business that his father started, the Evangeline Drug Store. He also served his country with great honor and pride as a soldier in the United States Army during the Korean War. He kept alive a proud family tradition of serving as mayor of his beloved hometown, Ville Platte, following the path set by his father and two uncles. Cecil also devoted much of his spare time to numerous civic minded organizations and clubs he had a strong belief in giving back to his community. His favorite pastime was following the Louisiana State University Tigers, whether it have been football or baseball. He held season tickets to the LSU Tigers Football games for well over fifty years and handed down his passion for Tiger Football to his children and grandchildren by always including them in trips to his beloved Death Valley. LSU has lost one of its greatest fans ever the stadium will seem just a little quieter without his cries of Tiger Bait, Tiger Bait
He will now join in Heaven his loving parents, Harvey and Myrtle Bordelon LeBas, his adoring father and mother inlaw, Henry and Ada Foret Guillaumin and one brother and sister inlaw, Frankie and Joan Stromer LeBas. They await his arrival with open arms and joyous hearts. Cecil will be proudly carried to his final resting place by his five children and his dear family friend and fellow former mayor of Ville Platte, Phillip LeMoine. Honorary pall bearers will be three of his grandsons, Dr. Jacob LeBas, Cole LeCoq and Jacques LeBas.
The LeBas family would like to send their everlasting gratitude to Dr. Brandon Fontenot and his staff and the entire staff at Mercy Regional Medical Center for their dedication and devotion to making sure his final days were spent comfortably and surrounded by his loving family.
At the request of the family, visitation will take place at Ardoins Funeral Home of Ville Platte beginning Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM and reopen on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed in his honor, at 6:30 PM.
