VILLE PLATTE It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Jane Melancon, 66, announces her passing on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at her residence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church of Ville Platte at 1:30 PM Friday, October 5, 2012. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell with Fr. Mitchell Guidry officiating.
A devoted mother, grandmother and sister, Barbara leaves behind her two loving daughters: Pamela F. Castille and her husband, James, Sr., of Ville Platte and Starla C. Melancon and her fianc, Hubert E. Cates, of Mamou. Her memory will most certainly be cherished by her twelve grandchildren: Joseph Chad Melancon, Katelin Fontenot, Johnathon Castille, Christopher Castille, Travis Castille, Jared Castille, Josh Castille, Shawna Fontenot, Zachary Fontenot, Shawn Fontenot, Jr., Gregory Tyler Charlie and Rylan Charlie. Also left behind to mourn are her three brothers: Felton Richard, Calvin Richard, both of Mamou and Robert Richard of Eunice.
Barbara now joins in Heaven her beloved son, Chad James Melancon, her parents, Willis and Nola Richard, her brother, Rodney Black Richard and her sister, Linda Faye Richard. They await her arrival with open arms and joyous hearts.
At the request of the family visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home of Ville Platte beginning at 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 3, 2012 and continuing until time of services on Friday. A Rosary will be recited in her honor Thursday evening at 7:00 PM led by Brother Mark Bordelon, O.F.B.
