WHITEVILLE - Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte on Monday, December 03, 2018 for Melvin Soileau, 90, who passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 in Whiteville, LA surrounded by his loved ones.
Father Donovan Labbe´ will be celebrant of the mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Burial will take place in the B.J. Fontenot Cemetery in Ville Platte, LA.
Melvin Soileau was born on February 19, 1928 to Clifton Soileau and Alice Fontenot Soileau. A lifelong resident of Whiteville, LA, he spent all his life farming and raising cattle, leaving his son to follow in his footsteps. He instilled in his children the importance of hard work. It’s this quality that made him such a successful farmer and cattleman. Melvin was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He always put his family first. He leaves his family with many cherished memories.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rose Saucier Soileau; three daughters, Brenda Perry and husband Wayne Perry, Debbie Kelly and Jackie Fontenot and husband Mitch Fontenot; one son, Kent Soileau and wife Sadie Foret Soileau; nine grandchildren, Kevin Perry, Shannon Perry, Sara LaFleur, Jacob Fontenot, Lainey Bordelon, Garrett Soileau, Gabe Soileau, Gavin Soileau and Grant Soileau; seven great grandchildren, Taylor, Nicolas, Ike and Lane Perry, Carter and Hudson LaFleur and Nash Bordelon all of Whiteville and his sister, Verna Guillory of Ville Platte.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Ryan Chedester; two brothers, Elton Soileau and Lee Soileau and one sister, Hazel LaFleur.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Ben Soileau at 5:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will resume on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
