MAMOU- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, for James Dowell Deshotels, on Tuesday, March 2,2010 at 2:00 pm at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou. Rite of Committal will follow in the Deshotels Cemetery with Father Jude Thierry Celebrant.
Dowell Deshotels, Sr. 71, year old native of Mamou, died on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Lafayette General Hospital, after a brief illness. Dowell a former Banker & Businessman of Mamou area; He also served on Evangeline Parish Solid Waste Board, Mamou Rotary, Mamou FireDept., Woodman of the World, & many other Civic organizations & was Retired from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff Dept.
Dowell is survived by five children, Hannan Deshotels and wife Cheryl of Pine Point, Steven Kirk Deshotels, of Mamou, James Deshotels, Jr. and wife Melissa of Baton Rouge; Marcy D. Galager and husband Kevin of Nice Vills, Florida and Mona D. Johnson and husband Timothy of Point Blue; seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Young Deshotels and Hannan Deshotels of Pine Point.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou on Monday, March 1, 2010 from 12:30 pm – until 10:00 pm .The Funeral Home will reopen on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 8:00 am until time os services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Monday evening.
