MAMOU- It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Mercedes D. West, announces her passing on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Opelousas General Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. Rite of Committal will follow in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery Mausoleum with Father Thomas Voohries Celebrant.
Mercedes will be greatly missed by her husband of 71 years, Evans West of Lanse Meg; two sons Donald James West and wife, Diana “Dale “, and David Chad West and Lucretia “Duka” Cortina and one daughter, Glenda and Aaron Fuselier; one brother, Ferrell Dupre and wife, Becky; one sister, Joyce Duplechain and husband, Stagg; grandchildren, Shelly Bellard, Joseph Fuselier, Scott Fuselier, Shawn West and Tyler West, Kelly Landreneau and Shanna Fontenot; great-grandchildren, James, Nita and Clay Bellard, Beau Fuselier and Luke Fuselier, Chase and Conner Caswell, Dylan, Alyssa and Jenna West, Ava, Ashton and Alec Landreneau.
She will now reunite in Heaven with her parents, Walter Dupre and Phyllis Fontenot Dupre and one sister, Lillie Mae Fontenot.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Monday from 5:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. The Funeral Home will open to resume visitation at 8:00 A.M. until time of services. A Rosary will be recited on Monday evening starting at 6:00 P.M with Deacon Church Ortego officiating.
